In-House Training Program  -  Philosophy and Methodology    In-house training is an intensive individualized program designed to meet the specific needs of each owner and dog.  Our approach to training is unique.  We test each dog we work with to evaluate your dog’s drives and instincts.  This tells us what will best motivate your dog.  Then we use the principles of behaviorism – operant conditioning and positive motivation – to train your dog.  We will work with your dog in obedience training, general manners, socialization with both people and dogs, and behavioral problems, if needed.  The length of your in-house program depends on your dog’s particular needs.  In-house training can be a stand-alone course for those who prefer to have us train the dog, or as a supplement to those taking group classes or private lessons.

Training Process   First you meet with a trainer for the dog’s evaluation and to set training goals.  You will bring the dog to our canine center on the specified drop-off date.  We will send you all the forms telling you what to bring.  While he stays here, your dog is trained every day. During the time that your dog is not being trained, he is playing and exercising with our other canine visitors and our socialization instructors. Everyone on our staff follows the same training procedures so that consistency is maintained for your dog.  The socialization instructors also follow through with the manners training.  At night your dog sleeps in his own crate which we provide. There is a staff person on the premises twenty-four hours a day, so the dogs are attended overnight.

Your dog may be trained by more than one trainer as this helps in the transference process.  The first follow-up lesson is scheduled at the canine center on the day of pick-up.  Additional follow-up lessons are scheduled based on your program and your needs.  These follow-up lessons may be held at the canine center or in your home depending on your location.

We will communicate with you weekly to update you on your dog’s progress.  You are welcome to call more often to check on him.  (We ask that you not visit your dog during this time as it may interfere with the training process.)

The success of the training program depends on you. We will provide you with written instructions at your follow-up lessons. If you follow through with the lessons and instructions we give you, you will have a well-trained dog who can live as a real member of the family.

Fees    All programs include an initial evaluation, daily individual training, socialization, boarding, and a courtesy bath before pick-up. Dogs are trained 6 days a week.
